Hope everyone is either ready or preparing for the cold that is racing toward us. Do note that due to the Meridional Jet Stream flow we are seeing and will continue to see very warm weather surging north while at the same time on the other side of the stream very cold weather will be surging south. Cap’s report on Europe’s weather is a classic example.
The Maunder minimum and Little Ice Age happened when global average temperatures were already lower than they had been during the Medieval Warm Period. Today’s temperatures are about the same as during the MWP so even a 1.5 degree drop won’t result in temperatures as low as during the LIA, they’ll be more like temperatures about 150 years ago
Imo swings between extremes, especially the possibility of very late or early frosts shortening the growing season, could be far more of a problem than slightly lower monthly or yearly average temps in any given region.
Yesterday and today I harvested zucchini. Earliest I have ever harvested zucchini. Most of my decades of gardening were in N. CA., so no surprise there. But the climate these past nine months here in the Central Highlands of Arizona, has been so remarkable. We’ve basically had spring since fall with a few intrusions of mild winter. We had summer in winter in early March, but expressions of light winter in spring in April. It has been very interesting and enjoyable. Not sure about the driving force for this climate, but when we first moved here it was very cold. Two springs ago the trees didn’t leaf out until May and we’ve had some very snowy days since we moved here, two days accumulated snow was 10 inches four years ago. 😳
That is commonly known as a ‘female’ weather pattern.
Never take it for granted.
That hardly seems fair, since men can be as unreliable as women.

Being happy isn’t part of my job description. I was happy for a little while, a few years back, because I was living in a fantasy world, with a little help from my friend. But that’s okay. Memories are all we get to take with us, anyway. It’s nice to have a happy memory.
Obviously, there’s quite a difference between a full glaciation period and the little ice age events.
But, for North America, might one expect cold events of the next few decades to be more concentrated on the land masses where the mighty ice sheets last formed?
I’m not saying to expect those ice sheets, not even close, but rather, to look for more lingering cold, snow and maybe some ice in those areas.
